RCS is demolishing 3 sections of the building that were added on over time while completely replacing the roofing, siding, floor systems, doors,
windows, cornices, and structural framing as required. This will bring the building back close to its original design when it was originally built
in 1847 with future work and phase’s to complete the restoration sometime in the near future.. The Mill was established for milling flour in
1847, just after the completion of the Miami & Erie Canal and operated until 1972. Named the Gordon, Hauss, Folk, Co. Mill, it is one of the very
few original mills that still exist today along the canal. RCS Construction’s job is to strip the building down to its original structure, a 40’x60’
building making sure the foundation and interior are stable. Dylan Okeefe is the Site Superintendent on this job. We are excited to see this
unique project continue!
The Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) is a system that is designed to improve a company systematically and permanently. It implements and aligns the core values and core focus of a company, it crystalizes the vision, and gets everyone on the same page about where the company is going how it is going to get there. The results of implementing this system are extremely rewarding and include increased efficiency, more effective, stronger communication, makes the job more enjoyable, and more profitable. Two of the BCE divisions have already started implementing this. BGC started approximately about a year ago, while (RCS) started in December of 2019. Both divisions are already seeing the benefits of the system. Although it normally takes several years to fully implement we plan to start the implementation of this system in all of our divisions in the near future and are excited for what it will yield for all of us.
The Ohio Northern University, new Engineering Department building was a new construction project, which consisted of installing 2 layers of ISO insulation (R-25) over the new metal deck. OIR installed 48,000 Sq Ft of Duro-Last (Duro-Tuff PVC Membrane) with a 20 year manufacturer’s warranty! OIR also installed new metal screen wall panels and 3” insulated wall panels on this project. There is a lower canopy deck roof area covered with concrete pavers that is used by the occupants of the facility that turned out beautiful. Ohio & Indiana Roofing was a sub-contractor to Corna Kokosing on this project, both Corna and the owners/ ONU where thrilled by our team’s performance on this complicated project with numerous moving parts. Currently OIR is working with Corna’s team on roof designs for a couple additional roof projects in the private sector in Columbus, Ohio, which is an exciting testimonial to the stellar effort and performance by our entire team on the ONU Engineering Department project. Job Well Done!
Solar Roofs (Photovoltaic) – Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla) launched a new roofing product in 2017, a solar roof. They have integrated solar cells into roofing tiles to generate power for homeowners and businesses, while keeping the interior dry. It started off slower than anticipated and installations have been limited. Their goal of starting volume production in 2018 was not met because they wanted to make some adjustments to this product to be sure it would last thirty years. They are currently on their third version of this product and are readying themselves for volume production. By the end of 2019 they are hoping to be producing 1,000 solar roofs per week. With the volume production they are hoping to make these systems more affordable. There are now over 2 million solar installations on roofs across the US (either a solar roof or roof with solar panels installed on it). Professionals project to have 3 million installed in 2021 and 4 million installed by 2023
Bruns General Contracting has been awarded the contract to build the new campus for Hospice of Miami County. The campus will include a new patient care building, administration building, and a chapel. It will be located on the campus of Premier Health and the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Ohio.
The patient building will replace the 7-bed unit currently located within the Upper Valley Medical Center with a new, 12-bed unit. The administration building will accommodate the offices of Hospice of Miami County, home care services, volunteer services, and a community meeting room. We are anxious to get started on the project and expand these much-needed services for our community
Studies found a preference for U.S.made products when concerns about quality, safety, and durability were high. We learned that Americans believe that U.S.
manufacturing is important for long-term job growth, economic stability and national security. And, we learned that younger generations are less convinced
of the quality of U.S.made products. With that said, how can we turn consumer preference into purchases and reconcile the concerns of millenials and the Gen Z?
Millenials represent the largest generation in American history (even larger than the baby boomers). These consumers hunger for environmentally sustainable
practices and authenticity. Fast delivery and customization appeal to Gen Z. Fifty-eight percent are willing to pay extra for faster delivery. Eighty percent
purchase products that have a societal or environmental impact.
Environmental impact, job creation, convenience, and quality are four benefits of local
production that may bridge the generational divide and influence consumer-purchasing behavior. Domestic production equates to less transport and
adherence to stricter environmental standards. It decreases unemployment, stabilizes the economy and raises living standards. And, it provides more
efficient productions, flexibility for customization, and faster delivery - an important factor for today's ondemand buyer.
Warehouse Expansion
2019 is bringing big changes to our Celina office!
What was a large open stone parking lot for equipment storage and parking, will now be the home
of a new 12,000 sq. ft. building. With this new building, we will be adding a MEP’s, wood and mechanic’s shop, along with warehousing space. The parking will be moved to the south of the lot and the existing warehouse/office will also be updated.
Once the first phase is completed, Phase 2, which is comprised of a face lift to our existing office; along with eight additional offices and a conference room, is projected to begin in the winter of 2020. We are excited to see it all take shape and put it to use!
Over the last 60-90 days, Ohio & Indiana Roofing - South has hired 8 new associates. Primarily, these hires have come from current associate referrals. A lot of these recent hires want to learn the trade with our company. One of the newest hires has a CDL license, which was needed. We simply have been diligent in asking our current associates to look for these opportunities, and it has paid off.
Did you know we have an Associate Referral Program at Bruns Construction Enterprises? This program is valid for ANY current BCE associate. If a new applicant lists a current associate as a referral on their application, is hired, and has completed their 90 day probationary period, the associate that recommended our company to the new associate will receive their choice of $200 or an additional vacation day.
OIR is currently looking for hardworking and reliable team members, no experience necessary - we will train them! For anyone that may be interested in this type of career, there is plenty of room for advancement and an opportunity to learn a new trade.
Many of our other divisions are also looking to hire as we continue to grow. A master list of positions available can be found at: bruns1951.com
Company Spotlight: Bruns General Contracting
"Bruns Construction has done an
excellent job working with three entities as we
work to bring a privately funded new stadium to
Tipp City. They have worked closely with the
school district, the city of Tipp City, as well
as the private fund-raising group Tipp Pride
Association as we have moved this long awaited
project forward. Their attention to detail and
professionalism of the Project Manager and the
contractors has been outstanding. They actively
sought ways to reduce the cost of the project
through value engineering, which is beneficial
to us as we are on a limited budget as we work
to fund this stadium through private donations.
We look forward to continuing to work with Bruns
on future phases of this project."

Vacation Reno On The Lake
In 2017, RCS revamped a rental on the lake into an Airbnb/VRBO vacation resort right on the water on Grand Lake in Celina. Our team was able to transform the first rental unit in 2017 from a single family condominium into a five-star rated vacation resort
- even more proof that the vacation atmosphere on the lake is making a comeback!
This year, in 2018, RCS finished two more units, each with their own unique, lake resort concepts. Lynn Edmonds, the Resort Manager, has also been involved in designing the exterior landscaping and large fire pit overlooking the lake. RCS completed the work for Beach Club Escape, which is available for 2 consective days or more. In June of 2014, OIR-S relocated to its present location on Old Selma Road in Springfield- prime location right along the I-70 corridor on the East side of Springfield. To fit the needs of our team, we added a Tool Room and additional storage. Because of the lack of office space for day-to-day business, we have been renting a mobile office unit for the past 4 years. As we have grown over the years, we have quickly outgrown our current space situation. In search of existing facilities between Dayton and Columbus markets, we were hopeful to find a location that had everything we were looking for! In January of this year, we were presented with the opportunity to purchase 5+ acres of land that is directly adjoined to our current location. It was perfect! We will now be able to increase the size of our existing warehouse and build proper offices for our team. We are currently in the process of clearing the existing land and are hopeful to be breaking ground in the not-so-distant-future. Our team is very pleased, excited, and really looking forward to having a new facility to operate and grow our business out of in the future! Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
OIR was awarded the Chairman Award for selling over $1M of DuroLast product in 2017. This was a complete team effort and one we should all be proud of as a company!
OIR recently upgraded our handheld thermal imaging camera. This new camera has some great features, including: color imaging, wifi capabilities, increased storage space, and higher quality imaging. With this camera, temperature is measured and displayed in real-time on the screen, which is used to detect and pinpoint wet insulation on existing roofs. As the outside temperatures drop in the evening, the scanner picks up the heat emitted from both wet and dry insulation. Knowing where the wet insulation is and the quantity helps when drafting up an estimate.
On January 15, 2017, we had the privilege of hosting Senator Rob Portman for the afternoon at our office during his Results for the Middle-Class Tax Reform Tour. Steve had the honor of introducing each associate to Senator Portman and explaining their role within the company. Senator Portman then took the time to talk with each associate and ask questions about what they were working on and how it impacted the company. After meeting each associate, Senator Portman addressed
the group and shared his thoughts related to the recently passed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the biggest tax reform package in over 30 years. Steve was able to share how associateowned Bruns Construction Enterprises will benefit from the new tax law. Not only will all of us keep more of our paycheck, but as a company, we will also experience an increase in business. We will have more funds to allocate to marketing and advertising, which in turn will increase business. With the tax savings, Bruns has already begun purchasing more equipment and trucks, as well as hiring new people. As the company grows, ALL associates will benefit from increased stock value which will increase their retirement fund. We appreciate our associates at the NFIB arranging this meeting and for all that they do for us as a small business. As Steve said,
"I believe small business is the engine of our economy and the
compass that keeps our country on true north. I believe the
long-term effects of this new law will help grow our economy."
"I was very impressed on the commitment and quality of work Bruns Construction Enterprises has demonstrated through the construction of our facility. From initial plans through completion of the project, they made every step easy and made sure our new Distribution Center was completed in the scheduled time frame. With our expanding product lines in military shelters and commercial products, Bruns made sure our new Distribution Center will give us much needed room to grow. Thanks again!"
- Jeff Grieshop, President | Celina Tent
